Why don't try to copy /dev/ from other VPS or from HN?

Actually, I did try that, sorry for not mentioning it. The VPS /dev gets repopulated alright, but the VPS still does not work like it should. I am unable to SSH in, and I am unable to 'vzctl enter' it. Some other stuff, including the web server, seems to work fine though.

From what I can see this boils down to conflicts between udev and vzdev. I have never seen vzdev before, but from what I can see it seems to be some /devfs implementation specifically tailored to vz environments. I can't even find any mention of it on the hardware node, and the package version when I install or list it on a VPS is 3.3.13-1.3.swsoft. So I figure that what I need is to figure out how to install Gnome without removing vzdev and/or installing udev. Am I getting warm?
