I am trying to install Gnome on an OpenVZ VPS. The last ting that happens when I run 'vzyum 101 install gnome-session' is "Removing : vzdev", which effectifly strips down my 500+ /dev to a meager 4 entries, obviously rendering the system useless. I tried 'vzyum install vzdev', but it complains that I need udev >= 034-2. 'rpm -qa |grep udev' gives me 'udev-039-10.12.EL4'. Now what?
Hardware node is running CentOS 4.3 with 2.6.8-022stab78 kernel, VPS is based on centos-4-i386-default. I have tried both the downloadable template cache and creating my own updated one.
The last lines of output during install:

Actually, I did try that, sorry for not mentioning it. The VPS /dev gets repopulated alright, but the VPS still does not work like it should. I am unable to SSH in, and I am unable to 'vzctl enter' it. Some other stuff, including the web server, seems to work fine though.
From what I can see this boils down to conflicts between udev and vzdev. I have never seen vzdev before, but from what I can see it seems to be some /devfs implementation specifically tailored to vz environments. I can't even find any mention of it on the hardware node, and the package version when I install or list it on a VPS is 3.3.13-1.3.swsoft. So I figure that what I need is to figure out how to install Gnome without removing vzdev and/or installing udev. Am I getting warm?
