Hi, I am running 2.6.32-042stab068.8 on a 64GB openvz host. The VMs use around 30GB and the rest is normally used for cache and buffers.
Since I updated to this latest kernel, the cached is varying from 1G-30G, and the swap usage wants to be at 100%. Normally I do not operate with a swap, and with the new kernel, swap is not required for vswap to operate. Despite this, I feel the kernel is not handling memory correctly.
For example:
# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 64279 41259 23019 0 1636 13282
-/+ buffers/cache: 26340 37938
Swap: 13960 13164 795
At this moment, the system is using all available swap and is seemingly wasting (23-13) 10GB of memory.
26G actively allocated
14GB swap
13G in cache
I have seen cache as low as 1G during normal operation and as high as 30G.
Is there any information I can provide? I feel the system is actively paging for no reason:
# vmstat 5
procs -----------memory---------- ---swap-- -----io---- --system-- -----cpu-----

This issue was not exhibited on the previous kernel.
