Hi all,

I came across a very strange problem. When trying to send a email from an VE to a certain SMTP server, I get no SMTP 220 response.

[updated] - I filed a bug http://bugzilla.openvz.org/show_bug.cgi?id=210 after I have read http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=tree&goto=2376&# msg_2376

sorry if my first post has caused any inconvenience

Best wishes,
Werner

Hi,

can you connect a smtp server per telnet ?
like:

$ telnet <smtp-server> 25

maybe a "firewall" like iptables enabled ?

hi,

yea - as mentioned in the bug report I can connect this way when I'm using the centos kernel, and I'm getting the 220 SMTP response. When I'm using the openvz kernel, the tcp connection gets established (I used tcpdump in parallel, an the the SYN, SYN/ACK, ACK sequence), but the 220 response is simply missing...

I discovered this problem only with one SMTP server I try to send emails to yet - according to some messages found in google groups it seems that the receiving SMTP server is an cisco pix or something like that.

iptables is disabled.

Hi,

after reading the bug-report Wink
I' ve tested it on of one Debian ve's :

please check:

$ telnet mail10.systs.org 25

<output>
Trying 212.60.156.69...
Connected to mail10.systs.org.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mail10.systs.org ESMTP
quit
221 Bye
</output>

And it works, maybe a CentOS prob ?
Is the some specific sysctl settings on CentOS ?

Thorsten

As mentioned in the bug report, the problem has to do with the windows scaling of TCP - Aistis has found that (check out the bug report)

Werner
