Last night I setup a new CentOS 4.3 server for OpenVZ.

Installation went fine except the New kernel data was not automatically added to /boot/grub/grub.conf. I added it manually and changed to reflect the kernel version and set the default to the new kernel.

Updated sysctl.conf to match Install Doc.

Rebooted.

/var/log/message returned:

Jun 11 16:39:45 localhost ifup: b44 device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.

Jun 11 16:39:45 localhost network: Bringing up interface eth0: failed
Jun 11 16:39:49 localhost kernel: PCI: Ignoring BAR0-3 of IDE controller 0000:00:1f.1
Jun 11 16:39:49 localhost kernel: PCI: Transparent bridge - 0000:00:1e.0


Shouldn't the eth0 driver automatically be recognized? this is a dedicated server and my host did not indicate any special drivers needed for other kernels.

Are there any known issues in the kernel related to this issue?

The reason is that the driver for Broadcom 4400 device you are using isn't compiled in OVZ kernel. It's so, 'cause in mainstream linux this driver is marked as experimental...

The way out is to compile OVZ kernel from sources with support of B44 driver.

I have the same problem

How can i compile the kernel ovzkernel-2.6.8-022stab078.10.src.rpm to add the Broadcom driver
i didn't find any documentation

Hi,

I'm having this same problem. What part of the instructions on that page did you follow to fix it? I'm confused as to which part I should do, the Rebuilding kernel from SRPM part, or the Rebuilding kernel from sources part.

My host was nice enough to add a 3com nic so I did not have to add the Broadcomm drivers.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, this is on my home computer which has both Linux and Windows XP on it, and I only have one network card. Any ideas how I can add support for the broadcom card into the kernel?

Thanks for your help guys. I was able to recompile the kernel from the source rpms to include the drivers for my NIC card. Everything is working now Smile.
