OK,

i installed openvz inside a vmware system, and as is to be expected, it nearly worked fine. The only problem seems to be with network. i asssigned to the VE some proper global ipaddresses, but though i can access the VE from inside vmware, i can't access it from outside it.

Could anyone help me here?

Thanks a lot.

em.. hello-world, what networking settings do you use for your VMware VM -> Bridged, NAT, Host-Only or Custom? Does your VM get the IP address via DHCP? Etc, etc.

It is bridged. I mean, i have VMware working as full machine.

All IPS r static. if i was trying something funny, i would have mentioned it. It was a very standard vmware with a standard VE.

And actually the same problem happens in another vmware in another location too. I can ping the VE from inside teh vmware, but it is not available to the outside world.

Thanks for ur response.

Can you access your host system from inside VM? If so, we could look further.

So you only cannot access VEs or the host system (OVZ) too?

Yes from inside teh VE, i can access the host machine, and from teh host i can access teh vE. But not from outside the host..

THe vmware VM is a full fledged machine and is on a remote machine. i am logged into the VM through ssh. SO network on teh vm is very fine. From inside teh VM i can access teh VE. From inside teh VE, i can access teh VM.

But from outside, i can't access the VE.

i hope that's clear.

Thanks for your time.

oh. please check this:

# cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

if it is 0, set to 1 by issuing:

echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

should do a trick for you.
