You don't need any additional CentOS repos or newer PHP versions.

OpenVZ does not use PHP and you don't need to have it installed on a hardware node. You must be mixing up something here... perhaps you are using some third party control panel?

Anyway, I have made quick (!) tests running centos-5-x86_64 VM on a HN with 2.6.32-042stab024.1 kernel and it works just fine.
