I know this thread is quite old; did you (or anyone for that matter) come to a resolution on this problem. I am experiencing a similar situation and I have not been able to resolve it.

I just applied the reverse DNS update/concept you discussed in the thread as we were merely using /etc/hosts.... we'll see see how it goes.
