Hi,

I was wondering whether it's possible to transfer a CentOS-5-x86_64 VE to a 32bit installation. I tried it and I know it shouldn't be possible without a fresh VE installation but as there are some softwares and configurations on the 64bit server that are very troublesome to transfer to a new installation, I was wondering if it's possible.

I used vzdump to copy the 64bit VPS to the 32bit server and when I tried running it I got the following:

[root@staminus ~]# vzctl start 1102
Starting container ...
Container is mounted
Adding IP address(es): X.X.X.X
Setting CPU units: 10133
Configure meminfo: 309742
Set hostname: test-vps.com
Unable to start init, probably incorrect template
Container start failed
Stopping container ...
Container was stopped
Container is unmounted

I also tried changing OSTEMPLATE="centos-5-i386" but it also gave me the same error.

Thanks in advance,

Eugenio Pacheco

Hmm, I think that is impossible or you can try to run 64bit kernel with 32bit userspace. I think that should work.
