Hi all,

On my Centos 5.5 x86_64 Dell PE 860 server

I get a Kernel panic at network startup after I have upgrade to

ovzkernel-2.6.18-194.8.1.el5.028stab070.5.x86_64.rpm

If I go back to this kernel all is fine

ovzkernel-2.6.18-92.1.18.el5.028stab060.8

I Have the same kernel panic with the latest Centos Kernel

-> kernel-devel-2.6.18-194.11.4.el5

I can solve this by commenting this line in /etc/sysctl.conf this will prevent the kernel panic for both new kernel

-> #off net.ipv4.conf.venet0.forwarding = 1

Tools version:
vzctl-lib-3.0.23-1
vzquota-3.0.12-1
vzctl-3.0.23-1

Any help would be appreciate.

more on the sysctl.conf

I had these value for vmware-server usage could thaht affect ?

vm.swappiness = 0
vm.overcommit_memory = 1
vm.dirty_background_ratio = 5
vm.dirty_ratio = 10
vm.dirty_expire_centisecs = 1000
dev.rtc.max-user-freq = 1024

All the rest is a default Centos Install upgrade to latest Centos

Thanks

Hello,

1. First of all, I strongly recommend you whenever you have an Oops - immediately create a new bug report.

2. The information that you provided will not be enough for developers to analyze the problem and fix it.
Please, look at the following article in OpenVZ wiki:
http://wiki.openvz.org/When_you_have_an_oops
It might be necessary to install a remote console to get ALL logs from the kernel. I would recommend serial console in this case:
http://wiki.openvz.org/Remote_console_setup

Once more, provide all information in your bugreport.
Thank you.

Hi,

just for the record

I have upgraded my Dell Bios to latest A05

I see the kernel panic as soon has I enable the forwarding even on a non venet interface.

Here is my /etc/sysctl.conf

net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0
net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter = 1
net.ipv4.conf.default.accept_source_route = 0
kernel.sysrq = 0
kernel.core_uses_pid = 1
net.ipv4.tcp_syncookies = 1
kernel.msgmnb = 65536
kernel.msgmax = 65536
kernel.shmmax = 68719476736
kernel.shmall = 4294967296

As soon as I try this I get the kernel to panic
sysctl -w net.ipv4.conf.eth0.forwarding

I will try to connect my console to a serial port to report the exact message and will report it as a bug when possible.

thanks
