Dear OpenVZ community,

I have been running 2.6.26.8+openvz-dostoevsky for more than a year now on HP ProLiant (4 x 2.6GHz AMD Opteron 285, 16 GB RAM).

I have about 30 containers doing various tasks. Only a few have a decent load. One container is configured to actively use 4GB of RAM all the time.

Recently, I got curios why most of the time a large amount of RAM is used for slab cache and buffers. It's almost 1.5G and 1.5G 99% of the time. This does not happen on any of my other hardware (e.g. Intel high performance computing nodes).

Can anyone please explain this to me?

Please see the attached PDF to see my slab cache and buffers usage throughout the year.

Alex
