Hi,

how can I run KDE or GNOME in a VPS (Fedora Core 5).
When I try to start the X-Window I get the following error-message:

xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open /dev/tty0

Any idea?

Regards,
Philipp Bundschuh

do you want to run KDE with grappics output on your display or you want to start KDE remotely having the output on local display while VPS on remote side?

I have a VPS with FC5 and I want to run KDE in this VPS an export the display via SSH.
I need this, because the installer of the IBM db2-Database needs a GUI.

yes, I did.

since you have empty $DISPLAY X tries to access hardware directly. It was ssh -X who had to set DISPLAY variable to correct value.

Check that you have
X11Forwarding yes

enabled in /etc/ssh/sshd_config inside your VPS.

ok, now I have set the forwarding parameter, but the error message is still the same. Looking in /dev, the device tty0 does not exist. Why not?
Typing echo DISPLAY displays me: localhost:10.0
My Client on the notebook is xandros 3.0.2.

Any more idea? Could root-Access to the vps help you?
