Hi guys,

I can't seem to boot into the openvz kernel. I am using the Fedora Core 5 kernel

Here is my /boot/grub/grub.conf file:

# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.
# root (hd0,0)
# kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
# initrd /initrd-version.img
#boot=/dev/hda
default=0
timeout=5
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
hiddenmenu
title OpenVZ (2.6.16-1.2111_FC5.026test012)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.16-1.2111_FC5.026test012 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
initrd /initrd-2.6.16-1.2111_FC5.026test012.img
title Fedora Core (2.6.15-1.2054_FC5)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
initrd /initrd-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5.img
~

And below is my /etc/sysctl.conf file:

# On Hardware Node we generally need
# packet forwarding enabled and proxy arp disabled
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1
net.ipv4.conf.default.proxy_arp = 0
# Enables source route verification
net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter = 1
# Enables the magic-sysrq key
kernel.sysrq = 1
# TCP Explict Congestion Notification
#net.ipv4.tcp_ecn = 0
# we do not want all our interfaces to send redirects
net.ipv4.conf.default.send_redirects = 1
net.ipv4.conf.all.send_redirects = 0

Thanks ahead of time for the help

This is just a guess but I see you have the following commented out

Quote:

#boot=/dev/hda

did you try with
Quote:

boot=/dev/hda

Just a guess as I don't have time to look at my grub.conf at the moment.

Good Luck!

Can you take a photograph of the monitor when it fails to boot? There is relevant information which you are failing to mention. Without further information I do not thing anyone here can help you.

Hi!

I had the same problem too. I solved it by using the dev kernel, instead of the Fedora Core 5 kernel.

See http://openvz.org/download/kernel/devel/

Is there a reason why you chose the dev kernel instead of the stable kernel?

No worries. I'm still learning too.

You do not really require to uninstall the kernel.

Just download the new development kernel RPM, rpm-ivh ovzkernel.rpm.

Edit /etc/grub/grub.conf and change the default=0 to reflect the new kernel. (Considering 0 is the first kernel in the config file)
