I just recently starting using openvz. I'm using version 2.6.18-164.10.1.el5.028stab067.4. When I run vzctl stop on a vps that was /dev mounted --bind, the openvz kernel crashes.

Has anyone seen this issue before?

I'm not able to unmount it before doing the stop as it says it busy. I tried adding a unmount script into /etc/vz/conf/CTID.umount but that doesn't help, it still crashes. The only way I found to work around is to kill the init process and then umount it.

any ideas?

Thanks.

to share a kernel module since vps can't load its own kernel modules.

Maybe I don't need to mount it --bind if I use the sudo vzctl set 200 --devnodes command?

what exactly kernel module you want to be available in vps?
for some guide how to give access to devices for vps:
http://wiki.openvz.org/VPN_via_the_TUN/TAP_device

for the note
in any way mounting and unmounting /dev always will lead to crash

Hello Tom,

I was trying to reproduce your situation but was not able to do it.
So, don't you mind to provide us with information concerning the crash? It would be extremely nice to get all logs that may shed light on that problem. Serial console could help you to gather all needed logs.

Could you also provide us with the exact steps which led to such a problem i.e. the way to reproduce the issue would be a good piece of news.

At last, don't hesitate to create a new bug report.
Moreover, I strongly recommend you to do it because it's the only way to make sure your problem is solved.
