We have numerous servers using Seagate NL drives (250's and 750's) in RAID 0 configuration for speed. We thought this fine because of daily backups. All are built identical using NL35-250's or 750's, 3Ware 8006-LP RAID controllers. We have tried using noapic nolapic panic=10 in grub.coinf with no change. 3Ware tells us that the Seagate drives are spinning down, so we added a CRON that touches a file once a minute. This also has not helped.

Trying hdparm -Z /dev/sda produces errors.

How can we turn drive power management off and keep it off after a reboot?

How about Western Digital drives?

Is there an issue with the kernel emerging with 8006 controllers?
