I have been working with the Freeside application (well, attempting to) and couldn't get it to work. I hired a more knowledgeable Linux friend of mine to do it because I couldn't get it to work. He was having a difficult time until he setup Debian in his Virtual Box and it worked just fine with little to no effort hacking it to work.

Why would the OpenVZ Debian template not work when it works elsewhere?

This is what I got out of my friend doing the work.

Quote:
Source install: No go on any distro I've tried it on. Deb 5 Package Install: Good on my box, on the openvz it fails on the SQL setup with both mysql and postgresql (fresh installs just like mine, but apparently subtly broken)
i forget the exact error messages, but there were a lot of them
it wouldn't even let me try to configure mysql
on postgresql it messed up trying to create the tables
created some but not all, and complained about the missing entries
