Hi,

I'm running the ovzkernel-2.6.9-023stab051.3.i686 kernel on top of CentOS 4.

Since this is a very old kernel, can I not create containers of newer distros that require newer kernels?

I'm asking because when I try to create a container from the precreated Ubuntu 9.04 template I get a "FATAL: kernel too old" message when I start the container.

Is adding a newer kernel number to /proc/sys/kernel/virt_osrelease the suggested solution?

regards,

Mayank

There are many factors here... in short you can give it a try, if that won't help you have to switch to rhel5-based kernel

I'm afraid to try out things I don't understand. I'll give it a go, but even if it works, do you suggest I switch to the rhel5-based kernel?

Also will this kernel work on top of CentOS 4, or will I have to switch to a CentOS 5 base?

2.6.18 is good and stable, and there are some new features in it, so yes, switching would be a good thing to do.

From the other side, 2.6.9 is also stable and there is a rule that says "don't touch it if it works", so if it works for you leave it as is for now. If it does not -- upgrade to 2.6.18

Thanks for the advice Kir. I'll go with the fake kernel in virt_osrelease since 2.6.9 works well for me.
