Hi,

if you can run latest RedHat5 or CentOS5 on a node (without additional driver from vendors), OpenVZ also will run fine.

In particular i've found an article that may be useful for you:

I think we will used CentOS for the openvz.
So it wil not need any drivers?

We are planning to buy the intelcore I7 motherboard. So do you think it is good or we will encounter some problems.

Thanks for the fast reply.

Thanks again.

You see, there are very different motherboards exist that support Intel Core i7.
Intel Core i7 - is just a name for new CPU from Intel, not more.

But motherboards contain a lot more, most significant in this particular case - disk controller and network card. Which of them will be on that MBs you buy? i have no idea. Are they supported by RedHat/CentOS? i've also no idea.

Most probably you won't have any problems with CPU support but for all other peripherals - you need to check.

I personally run 64 bit Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 on an Intel core i7 920 D0 to host OpenVZ with many OpenVZ containers (both 32 and 64 bit) as well as several VirtuabBox containers and one or two 32 bit schroot containers.

My core i7 is built around an ASUS P6T-Deluxe board with 12Gb RAM and 3Tb storage and the cpu is clocked to 4Ghz.

All works beautifully.
