We are running an older version on Debian 2.6.18 with an Intel X3210 Quad Xeon and it has been great for a couple of years. vzctl version 3.0.11

We have 4Gb, 50 containers, very light usage (CPU usage rarely spikes above 10%).

But we are observing that occasionally a container will pause for a second or two. Since our containers are processing RTP (i.e. VoIP) streams, this results in unacceptable gaps in audio.

Where should we be looking?
CPU usage is modest
memory usage is modest (less than 2Gb total)
user_beancounters does not show any limits being exceeded

What could be causing containers to run fine for minutes and then pause for a second or two?

Hi,

it may be worth trying to adjust CPUUNITS/CPULIMITS parameters.

We thought about adjusting CPUUNITS/CPULIMITS but have had no luck.

In particular, regardless of the settings, if the system has a quad Xeon processor and is top is showing less than one processor's worth of work being done, and the system still freezes for a second or two, the problem would appear to be a bug in the process scheduler or, at the very least, a problem with the container to container networking.
