Hi,

From some reasons I had to compile new kernel with vz support. Unfortunately I've done it but virtuozzo doesn't want to start anymore. There is a problem with vzfs module because /dev/vzctl doesn't exist. Does anyone tried to run Virtuozzo under OpenVZ kernel ? How to do it ? I asked Parallels about that and they said that OpenVZ is not supported by them and I should ask here, so I'm doing it. I need to have Virtuozzo and Plesk compatibility but on my own custom kernel.

Thank you for your all replies and help.

Regards,
Jarek

P.s. My kernel is:
Linux server 2.6.18-028stab056 #2 SMP Wed Apr 22 14:57:10 BST 2009 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

There is no such module in OpenVZ kernel.
Presumably, you've bumped into a problem in one of the Virtuozzo startup scripts (/etc/init.d/vz?).
Of course, if you overcome all the obstacles and manage to correct all user space applications you'll be able to startup vz service but no guarantee that any other application will work with your custom kernel.

Hi Maratrus,

Thank you for your reply.
I feel like somebody made fun of me Wink. I spend couple of hours to compile that kernel exactly with that what I wanted, lived with a hope that I will see my own kernel after a boot and what... nothing Smile.
What do you mean saying correct user space applications ?
I'm concluding after your post that there is no way to run Virtuozzo on custom kernel and I can't compile vzctl from openvz because version of these tools i 3 and I've got Virtuozzo 4.

Too bad.

Regards,
Jarek

Indeed, openvz and virtuozzo kernels are very close to each other but there are differences which are reflected in userspace application. For example, the container's startup process might slightly differ which may lead to impossibility using virtuozzo-vzctl with OpenVZ kernel in some cases. So, the only way to check is making experiments.
