I installed DimDim converencing software in a CENTOS 5.2 container this week and was surprised at a couple of things. First, DimDim, which uses nginx, Tomcat, apache and a whole bunch of other apps, eats *lots* of RAM. I am struggling to find a way to limit that, but in the process ....

I notice that even with numproc set at 400, I am running out of processes. I set it at 800 and that seems to have tamed the beast, but what I am curious about is that at the time that VZLIST shows 496 processes running, if I do ps -ax on the HN I get 122 processes, and if I enter the VE and run ps -ax, I get 23 processes. Top shows the same.

Any ideas where the missing processes are going?

Very likely they are just threads.
Use "ps -eLf".
