After an attempt to upgrade the VZ server to Lenny it stopped booting, so we reinstalled the system disk with a clean Lenny.

Now it's running 2.6.26-1-openvz-686.

I copied the old templates and config files to their place, made an empty /vz/root/100 (100 is the ID), and mounted the other disk with the VEs back under /vz/private. Now when I try to start the VE, I get

Unable to start init, probably incorrect template
VE start failed
Stopping VE ...

# grep OSTEMPLATE /etc/vz/conf/100.conf
OSTEMPLATE="debian-4-x86_64-xtcommerce_eu"

# ls -l /vz/private/100/sbin/init
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 37384 2009-03-11 21:48 /vz/private/100/sbin/init

# /vz/private/100/sbin/init
-bash: /vz/private/100/sbin/init: cannot execute binary file

How can I fix this? It's kindof urgent.

I reinstalled with debian amd64, the VEs came up fine with minimal tweaking. Original problem was /boot/grub/device.map.
