I am needing assistance on next step.

Once you have a VPS running do you need to install the OS?

If so what is the suggested procedure?

If not how do I get a GUI inerface set up on the VPS?

I am running on HWN Centos 5, I have have VPS set up with a centos5 template.

If your VPS ir running, then you've already "installed" OS there Smile
I guess it's a matter of adding packages via yum to get GUI if you're using centos5 template ...

Ok, that answers that.

Now I tried to install kde, but am receiving an error.

Errono 4 IO(error: <urlopen error (-3, 'temporary failure in name resolution')>
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: base

sounds to me as if you can't access a DNS-server.

try the following:
dig www.openvz.com

if you receive an error make sure that there is a entry called NAMESERVER in you vps-config file.

Yes, I ran through all of that. I added the nameserver, the only thing I did not do was the hostname.

After some config settings, I connected the HWN to network and

dig www.openvz.org worked.

Question do I need to run this in VPS, and does that mean the VPS needs to be on the domain even though my DNS server IP was added to it?

the information you provide is a bit sparse.
somehow I doubt that you created your VPS according to one of the tutorials or as the manual describes it.
especially the sysctl parameters (manual page 27) have to be set. please make sure you follow all the required steps provided by the manual or the many many tutorials for the linux-distributions that are out there. also make sure that your HN is connected to the internet, eg. that dig/ping/yum/ssh (whatever) works properly on your HN, or it will be very unlikely that your VPS get's an connection to the outside world.

then, if you still can't get it working, post your config files and your setup layout and I'm sure we will find a solution. Very Happy

all the best,
joe

ps: an almost bulletproof HOWTO for ubuntu can be found here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenVZ

If networking is ok outside VE, you can use
vzyum <VEID> <...>

to install packages into VE.
vzyum is just like yum, you just specify VE number before parameters (like install, check-update etc)
