Hello!

I made a new revision in the wiki page Install_OpenVZ_on_a_x86_64_system_Centos-Fedora.
A new version of setx86_64-0.3, the script that installs and applies the patches automatically, is also available in that wikipage.
Some new tips and script features were added and several distros were successful tested as hosts:
- Centos-5, Centos-4, Fedora Core 5 and Fedora Core 6.

The script also automatically installs all i386 templates available in openvz.org official downloads, contrib downloads and Forums,
and then use them to build x86_64 templates.

If we try to run it in a distro not tested, the script evaluates the possibilities, and only then, tries to patch it, if possible.
Because Fedora 7, and Fedora 8, have python 2.5 version, they cannot be used as hosts at this time.

If you have suggestions or you find any issues using the script, please report them.
Also, if someone knows the location of other templates not included in the list, please make a note about it.

Hope this could help anyone interested.

I just ran this on a CentOS 5.1 box, and the script claimed to have worked correctly. Thanks for the hard work!

Upon proceeding with the second substep of Step 11 in the install guide, however, I get this error message:

ERROR: find_lock_nearest_veid: 'vzctl status' command returned non-zero exit code, which should not happen. See /var/log/vzctl.log for details
ERROR: Can't find free VPS ID

The log file contents claim this:

2008-03-04T19:36:11-0800 vzctl : VE 100001 : Unable to open /dev/vzctl: No such device or address
2008-03-04T19:36:11-0800 vzctl : VE 100001 : Please check that vzdev kernel module is loaded and you have sufficient permissions to access the file.

Running a "modprobe vzdev" didn't yield anything. I'm not experienced enough with OpenVZ to know where to go next.

Does something about my setup have to be modified after the script to get it to work?

Thanks!

Hi

Not sure if you are the author of the setx86_64-0.3 script but there seems to be an issue with vzquota, it doesnt pick up vzquota...x86_64 as a dependency and as such this causes container creation to fail if quotas are enabled in vz.conf

The installation of the .x86_64 bit version sorts this issue out.

Hello,

I am using CentOS 5.2 x86_64.

I performed the quick install from this page:
http://wiki.openvz.org/Quick_installation

Then I ran setx86_64-0.3 from this page:
http://wiki.openvz.org/Install_OpenVZ_on_a_x86_64_system_Cen tos-Fedora

setx86_64-0.3 completed and finished successfully.

I then ran:
vzpkgcache -f centos-5-x86_64-minimal

The program runs and downloads the rpms, but then begins to fail with these messages:

Running rpm_check_debug
Running Transaction Test
Finished Transaction Test
Transaction Test Succeeded
Running Transaction
Installing: libgcc ####################### [ 1/87]
could not open ts_done file: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/vz/root/100001/var/lib/yum/transaction-done.2009-01-14.16: 28.01'
Installing: setup ####################### [ 2/87]
could not open ts_done file: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/vz/root/100001/var/lib/yum/transaction-done.2009-01-14.16: 28.01'
Installing: filesystem ####################### [ 3/87]

All 87 packages fail this way.

At the very end this error message is displayed:

Complete!
sed: can't read /etc/init.d/syslog: No such file or directory
ERROR: Script install-post failed

Does anyone know a fix for this? Or can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance,

Daniel

I found a solution to my problem here in case anyone else runs into it:

http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=tree&th=6388&mid =31855&&rev=&reveal=

It allowed me to create the cache. However there were still alot of erros that were displayed along the way.

I think that I'm going to switch to manually making new templates based on some of the pre-created cache files as has been suggested elsewhere on the forum.

Thanks,

Daniel

A new revision in the script SETX86_64-0.4 was made. The wikipage was also corrected in http://wiki.openvz.org/Install_OpenVZ_on_a_x86_64_system_Cen tos-Fedora.

Some corrections were done according to these posts:

Install vzquota.x86_64 ( http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=msg&th=5595&#msg _34277)

Error in vzpkgcache ( http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=msg&goto=31531&# msg_31531)

Correction in centos-5 template ( http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=msg&goto=32840&& amp;srch=template+centos-5#msg_32840)

Hope this helps.

setx86_64 was not checking vzquota.x86_64 and vzctl.x86_64 packages the right way. So, there is a new minor update setx86_64-0.4-1.

I found there was also a fedora-9 template metadata in http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=tree&goto=32748& &srch=fedora9+metadata#msg_32748
So I included it in the new version script setx86_64-0.5.
