CentOS 5.2 x86_64 using the OpenVZ RHEL5 stable kernel.
uname -a
Linux biberserv 2.6.18-92.1.18.el5.028stab060.2 #1 SMP Tue Jan 13 11:38:36 MSK 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Everything on the HN:

auditd fails on startup, /var/log/messages:
Feb 3 15:00:11 biberserv auditd[20798]: Started dispatcher: /sbin/audispd pid: 20802
Feb 3 15:00:11 biberserv auditd[20798]: Unable to set audit pid, exiting
Feb 3 15:00:11 biberserv auditd: Cannot daemonize (Success)
Feb 3 15:00:11 biberserv auditd: The audit daemon is exiting.
Feb 3 15:00:11 biberserv auditd[20798]: The audit daemon is exiting.

An strace auditd -f -n (attached) shows that it's failing to read /proc/self/loginuid, which is missing (the file aint here). It is not missing on another machine running 2.6.18-92.1.13.el5.028stab059.3 .

"find /proc -name loginuid" returns nothing, while on every other linux box i tested, it returns two files for each process.
