Hello All,

I've done some searching and it looks like a lot of people have been able to run openvz and vmware-server along side each other.
The only thing is that the vsock module doesn't want to build on the openvz kernel (2.6.18-92.1.13.el5.028stab059.6 x86_64):
# make
Using 2.6.x kernel build system.
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.13.el5.028stab059.6/build/include/. . SUBDIRS=$PWD SRCROOT=$PWD/. modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-92.1.13.el5.028stab059.6-x86_64'
Building modules, stage 2.

make: *** [vsock.ko] Error 2

using Centos 5.2

I'm really stumped on this, could somebody give me hand on this? need to run a windows instance....

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hello,

are you sure that it is OpenVZ specific problem.
I found several pages with the same problem:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vmware-server/+bug /294978
http://communities.vmware.com/message/1059744;jsessionid=787 890E2A3822EE331A40847183695EB

Do you have a chance to check the native 2.6.18-92.1.13.el5 kernel which OpenVZ kernel is based on?

These issues are connected with kernels versions above 2.6.26 (or somewhere around that).

No, I don't have the chance right now. The include file that the vsock module is looking for are there, but some definitions are missing from it for some reason...

I wanted you to notice the words:

Nothing in Server 2.0 requires or uses VSock, it's just a useful communication API/platform for people (ISVs, developers) building services that need to communicate between hosts and guests with high bandwidth/low latency (i.e. faster than guest networking).

Where can I get vmware modules sources to try to compile it?

Yes, it looks as if vmware is running ok, just not sure if it is at its top performance without this module, but whatever.

If you give me an email (pm) i could send you a link with the source for the module.
