Read grub menu comments - there is detailed description, how to change boot parameters.
Something like 'e', 'e', edit line, 'b'

When the system is booted off the non-vz kernel, send us the output of:

ls -al /boot

Why do you use so old kernel?
The current problem is certainly not in old version of kernel, but it is stronlgy recommended to update kernel to avoid possible future problems.

In addition to this, please, provide also information from /proc/mounts and from /boot/grub/grub.conf, /boot/grub/menu.lst
