But how come that you have such an old "dev"??
i've checked my RHEL5 node, it has newer "dev" and as CentOS5 most likely has the same...

Can you please post here the output of following commands?:
# cat /etc/*rele*
# uname -a
# rpm -q udev
# rpm -q --provides udev
# rpm -q --whatprovides dev

Thank you,
Konstantin

in answer to your last question:

Can you please post here the output of following commands?:

cat /etc/*rele*:
CentOS release 5.2 (Final)

uname -a:
Linux 2.6.18-Aug5-v06iscsi-Xeon64 #4 SMP Mon Aug 11 03:55:01 EDT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

rpm -q udev:
udev-095-14.9.el5

rpm -q --provides udev:
config(udev) = 095-14.9.el5
dev = 0:3.12-1
udev-persistent = 0:095-14.9.el5
udev = 095-14.9.el5

rpm -q --whatprovides dev:
vzdev-3.3.13-1.4.swsoft
udev-095-14.9.el5

any help would be much appreciated,
jevo

Hi,

if you're using udev inside VE you don't need vzdev.
udev provides appropriate dev capabilty but vzdev doesn't.
