Hi folks,

Ubuntu 8.04 desktop i686 - host
OpenVZ - VM

I followed following walkthrough;
OpenVZ Ubuntu Install
http://www.wantlinux.net/?p=16

installing OpenVZ which is now running. Containers can be created. But I haven't figured out how to install the guest OS on the container. I have the guest OS installer CD available.

Please shed me some light. Pointers would be appreciated. TIA

well you can download a oficial template from openvz or you can build your own, for this you needs to bootstrap a ubuntu basic system.

Hi kenjy,

Thanks for your advice.

I have run following steps;

$ cd /var/lib/vz/template/cache
$ sudo wget http://download.openvz.org/template/precreated/ubuntu-8.04-i 386-minimal.tar.gz

Creating a container

$ sudo vzctl create 101 --ostemplate ubuntu-8.04-i386-minimal
Creating VE private area (ubuntu-8.04-i386-minimal)
Performing postcreate actions
VE private area was created

What shall I do next? Thanks

In case if I have to build my own template, on;
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=debootstrap

which package shall I download?

Furthermore if I can't find a template of an OS which I'm prepared to install what shall I do? TIA
