Hello,
We are currently having some issues with a node that has 8 physical processors with 32 GB of RAM . It does not seem to be threading the processes correctly, resulting in high loads with even little usage at times.
Is there possibly a special kernel needed in order to take advantage of all processors + hyper threading?
Thanks.

yeah... that's some crazy PAE overhead going on there. Try using a 64-bit host. You can just backup your configs and reinstall the base OS on / & /boot, not touching /vz. 32-bit containers will start and operate without issue on a 64-bit host.
With that much RAM you're probably running really, really scarce on low memory.

I'd still recommend trying a 64-bit kernel. With 32GB of RAM the PAE overhead has to be hurting no matter what and there is still low memory to worry about, especially with the # of processes that a 32GB VPS host would run. The fact that 32-bit VPS's perform flawlessly under OpenVZ 64-bit kernel makes the conversion very easy.
