I compiled ovzkernel-2.6.8-022stab061.1 using kernel-2.6.8-022stab061-i686.config.ovz as .config in Fedora 3 with gcc version 3.4.2. I am using grub.

The kernel was successfully build also generated initrd and added it in grub.conf.

During this boot process everything went fine but gave a warning message ... certainly not a kernel panic.

The warning message...

VFS-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode..
Freeing unused kernel memory: 332k freed.
Warning: Unable to open an initial console

The Boot process stop and no progress further.

I got some hints from several forum to add console option during kernel boot i.e console=ttys0 or console=tty0 but no luck.

I tried to boot without initrd but the same problem.

What could be the problem? I had compiled several vanilla kernel in the same box but has not face such problem before.

Any hints or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

why do you use this old kernel? there is 077 already released...

BTW, can you login to your box after the boot via ssh? I guess yes?
I think this is somehow related to udev or something in FC3. probably there is no /dev/console in initrd image.
