Hi, there.
Is apache2 need so much memory to run?
I use ubuntu template and use apt to install apache2 packages. It runs well, but it needs too much memories(280MB) to run apache2 in the default.
4212k used (4MB) - not start apache2 on ubuntu
287412k used (280MB) - start apache2 on ubuntu
By the way, here is a monitoring picture use munin for my openvz server, with 4G memories ,around 70 VEs, only 3 or 4 VEs run Apache2. Before system reboot, the memory usage is almost out, but while rebooting, down to 50% usage.
I just wandering is this normal?

with KeepAlive enabled (persistent connections allowed) then apache memory consumption is high and you see the behaviour you describe of (after server is running for some time) 100% memory use dropping to 50% after httpd restart (not necessary to reboot to see this happen)
is normal for apache which trades memory for performance e.g. the BBC website is very very fast with a long KeepAlive and they spend much on memory
