Yes. Don't know of any pitfalls.

And you can even migrate i386 VEs from x86_64 to i386 and back

Yes, I have tried and saw it working fine. However, I did not put any test load on it yet and was wondering whether i386 VEs would have any trouble accessing memory over 4Gb (the HN has 16 Gb of RAM).
