		From dmesg:

Linux version 2.6.18-ovz028stab053.4-smp (root@centos-32-build) (gcc version 3.4.4 20050721 (Red Hat 3.4.4-2)) #1 SMP Fri Jan 18 11:15:53 MSK 2008

I booted this kernel up today and found that lsmod was empty. I checked to be sure that the modules were there and they are. I looked at the files and found a modules.dep file that includes a bucket of entries.

I've been running
2.6.18-8.1.15.el5.028stab047.1 for a few months now and it works OK, that is, the modules load when I reboot.

I'm running this kernel on a Ubuntu edgy distro so I'm guessing something is incompatible, but since the older kernel worked OK out of the box, I'm guessing something is not quite the same.

I installed by using alien to convert the rpm to a deb file and did a dpkg -i *.deb.

I did a modprobe -a 8192too and the network came back up fortunately so I know it's not a problem with the modules per se.

I don't really know what other modules I need.

Thanks,
Jim.

PS I also installed the kernel on a Centos 5.1 system and it works fine there.

PPS
How interesting. I started vz (/etc/init.d/vz start) and all of a sudden lsmod shows a bunch of modules loaded. vz is supposed to be started for run levels 2345. Weird.
