Made me think there..... I believe the confusion is over the kernel naming system changing. Previously the version naming used to be x.x.x with the second number referring to a stable or development branch (odd or even number). Starting with the 2.6 series the third number lost this relevance as there is no longer a stable and unstable branch. Then at 2.6.8 a fourth number was added (x.x.x.x) to indicate security or bug fixes only. See "Linux Kernel" at Wikipedia. Smile The current 'stable' kernel is at the 2.6.23 series according to kernel.org. The default kernel on Opensuse 10.3 is the 2.6.22 series, but I have been using a more recent Opensuse realtime 2.6.23 kernel which is available from their repositories.
