DNS not resolving - IP works [message #25146]

Hi,

After rebooting VE's, I can not reach internet from VE anymore Sad

I had same issue some time ago and blast why, oh why did I not write down how I fixed it Sad

Anyway:

1. VE is on a public IP;
2. DNS lookup does not work;
3. Ping on IP works;
4. /etc/resolv.conf is same as on HW (dns lookup on HW works);
5. VE can reach nameservers from resolv.conf

I belive this has something to do with routing from VE to HW to internet.

On HW:
[root@vz]# ip r l
85.31.187.52 dev venet0 scope link
85.31.187.53 dev venet0 scope link
85.31.186.0/23 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 85.31.186.66
169.254.0.0/16 dev eth0 scope link
default via 85.31.186.1 dev eth0

try a traceroute to the DNS servers from the VE

Don't have it installed Sad

And can not install it from HW.

How can I know to which IP should I route traffic from VE?

My guess is, that network traffic should go from VE to HW to Internet?

And I belive, that routing is not oke. But I have no idea how it works, so do not know what and how to setup Sad

Oke, solved this one by myself.

Firewall on HN did not allow traffic from VE to pass through. Opened it in iptables and it works like a charm now Smile
