OpenVZ is not paravirtualization, it is rather containerization. See the difference here: http://wiki.openvz.org/Introduction_to_virtualization

But in most cases it still makes sense to compare it to VMware and/or Xen. For example, see this comparison of OpenVZ vs Xen done by HP labs: http://www.hpl.hp.com/techreports/2007/HPL-2007-59.html
