If I install yum on a VE, and use yum instead of vzyum, will this cause corruption or problems?

I have run into a few package issues using vzyum, but they all appear to be solved by using the local VE yum.

For example "Xvfb could not open default font 'fixed'" (http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=tree&th=4718) was solved only by using the local yum.

Another example I ran into is installing OpenOffice for the contributed centos-5 template, which I received the following error when using vzyum, but not yum.
"Error: Unable to satisfy dependencies. Error: Package openoffice.org-core needs hsqldb >= 1.80.1, this is not available."

My preference would be to just use the local yum, as that is what I am most familiar with, and appears to work most frequently. Will this cause corruption to my VE?
