Hi All:

First I would like to mention that I am n00b when it comes to building custom kernels from source.

I have been trying to build the latest openvz kernel for a AMD64 bit system but haven't had much luck with the instructions provided on the wiki ( http://wiki.openvz.org/Installation_on_Debian#Build_your_own _kernel-image_.28debian_way.29). I have googled a bit and haven't found anything useful thus far.

I would like to build a kernel using the latest kernel version not the stalk 2.6.18 offered in the "deb http://debian.systs.org/ stable openvz" as this kernel is missing a lot of stuff that my systems requires; example networking.

I took a look at the instructions about building a kernel from source for debian but this only covers how to do this for a non-ubuntu dist. for the 2.6.18 kernel.

Are there any instructions on how to build a 2.6.22 + openvz patched kernel for AMD-64?

Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.

Hi,

get the 2.6.22 source + openvz patch , untar src, patch it, cp default config of a kernel, edit it, built the linux kernel package.

Btw, what kind of kernel modules are missing, that you need a 2.6.22 ?

Hi:

Thank you for your reply!

Well, in terms of what modules I needed in the 2.6.18, networking, sound and nvidia where both not present in the default ovz 2.6.18.

I have worked around this problem for now using a precompiled 2.6.18 that I found yesterday, but I would prefer to have the latest 2.6.22 with sound, network and video support compiled in, I am getting the sense that this won't be the case and that I will have to rebuild any packages that I really want to use with my customer built kernel.

I will give your instructions a try and will post my success/failures.

Cheers

Hi:

I found it here: http://debian.systs.org/debian/pool/openvz/o/ovzkernel-2.6.1 8/

I used: ovzkernel-2.6.18_028stab048.1_amd64.deb

In fact, I lied about the kernel moduels, it appears that the initial test that I performed was using the SMP kernel, whereas this time I used the AMD-64 version and the only issue was the "restricted-modules" package that is required to get nvidia kernel modules installed and loaded on Ubuntu Gutsy.

I will try to follow the following post: http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=msg&goto=13191&

And reply with my success/failure.

Cheers and thank you for taking the time to reply.
