Hi,

I'm trying to install kernel-smp-2.6.18-ovz028stab047.1.i686.rpm on a CentOS 4 system and it gives the following:

[root@server openvz]# rpm -ivh kernel-smp-2.6.18-ovz028stab047.1.i686.rpm
warning: kernel-smp-2.6.18-ovz028stab047.1.i686.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID a7a1d4b6

WARNING: No module ata_piix found for kernel 2.6.18-ovz028stab047.1-smp, continuing anyway

I have the following controller on that server: 3ware 9650SE-2LP.

Should I just disconsider the message above or should I try another kernel or should I get a vanilla kernel, patch it and load those modules?

Thanks in advance,

Eugenio Pacheco

I think that the driver is in the kernel. I have a server with a 8006LP. If you can afford to reboot and maybe have a server down, go ahead and reboot, you'll see.

If you're not close to the server or if it is mission-critical, please wait for a confirmation of a member of the openvz team.

Hi,

That server is on a DC and has no kvm over ip:(.

Anyway... I tried to reboot into openvz kernel and it didn't reboot. I then tried to install the latest 2.6.22 and it didn't give any error message, although it didn't reboot on the kernel either. Any ideas? Smile

Thanks in advance,

Eugenio Pacheco

Hi,

On kernel 2.6.18 it gives the fllowing:

mkrootdev: label / not found
mount error 2 mounting ext3
mount: error 2 mounting none
switchroot: mount failed: 22
umount /initrd/dev failed: 2
kernel panic...

On 2.6.22 it gave an error of BUG on a file which I don't recall the name right now.

On 2.6.9 (rhel 4) it finally booted ok.

On 2.6.18 (rhel 5) it also booted ok.

I will use the last one (rhel 5).

Thanks for all the help.

Regards,

Eugenio Pacheco

Hi,

1. As to 2.6.18 kernel it seems the initrd here incorrectly created.
Please, try to create initrd manually. May be
http://wiki.openvz.org/Modifying_initrd_image helps you.

2. Is the BUG you received while using 2.6.22 in linux/arch/i386/kernel/microcode.c?
If it is right, please compile this kernel by yourself without microcode support.

Thank You!

Hi,

Thank you very much for the support. Yes, the error was on microcode.c. I'm pretty happy with the RHEL 5 kernel:) It seems to work perfectly. Is there any known problem with using that on CentOS 4?
