Well, I have always hated RPM's but it seems that its all you provide for OpenVZ. I tried installing the kernel with:

Quote:

[root@66 vz]# rpm -ivh vzkernel-2.6.8-022stab038.1.i686.rpm

But I got this error:

Quote:

warning: vzkernel-2.6.8-022stab038.1.i686.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e2290c82
error: Failed dependencies:
module-init-tools is needed by vzkernel-2.6.8-022stab038.1

My question is, where do I obtain module_init_tools? Is it somthing that OpenVZ provides or just a dep?

Thanks. Smile

CentOS.

Quote:

[root@66 vz]# uname -a
Linux 66.32.216.in-addr.arpa 2.4.21-37.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Sep 28 14:05:46 EDT 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
[root@66 vz]#

Doing some research, it looks as if module-init-tools is just the kernel module commands like insmod and modprobe.

I'm using CentOS 4.1 without a problem such as yours. I googled quickly and saw a lot of Slack posts. I'm at work but will google as I get time to see if I can assist you.

Try the following:

yum install modtools
or
yum install module-tools

Good Luck!

Please let us know how you make out in case someone else has the same problem.

Neither work. I think i'm just going to upgrade, because the server I'm using appears to be running CentOS 3.x.

The problem is CentOS 3 supports 2.4 kernel only, while OpenVZ is 2.6. So you need a distro that supports 2.6 kernel (such as CentOS 4).

Yep, you were right. The RPM's go in fine once I upgraded.
