*SOLVED* IT8212 Module (P-ATA) [message #1856]

Hi,

i have installed the ovzkernel-2.6.15-025stab014.1 everything works perfectly only the IT8212 Raid Controller makes problems.

If i boot with the Fedora Core (2.6.15-1.1831_FC4) kernel the sd_mod is loaded for the IT8212 Raid Controller. But if i boot with the openvz kernel the Raid Controller Module (sd_mod) will not loaded! I don't found any module for it.

I tried some things, but i had no success!
1st TRY:
tried to compile the sources of the controller (get many errors)

2nd TRY:
copied the sd_mod.ko to openvz-kernel and made "depmod -a" and "modprobe sd_mod" (error-message: FATAL: Error inserting sd_mod (/lib/modules/2.6.15-025stab014.1/kernel/drivers/scsi/sd_mod .ko): Invalid module format)

Have anyone a solution?

Hello Stefan,

sd_mod is not Raid Controller Module, it is Scsi Disc driver. We have this driver compiled in-kernel.

As far as I understand the issue ovzkernel does not have driver for your raid controller. Currently I don't know what the driver should support your hardware. Could you please show me your /etc/modprobe.conf file?

thanks for your answer, here are my modprobe.conf file.

I have 2 Controllers:
- 3-ware 8500 (s-ata)
- it8212 (p-ata)

At the dmesg-files you can see that both kernels find the controller, but only the FC4 kernel identify as an IT8212 and at the OpenVZ Kernel as an SvrWks (or else like that)!

Informations about the IT8212 at the openvz kernel "/lib/modules/2.6.15-025stab014.1/build/drivers/ide/Kconfig"

try to use our default config, but replace string like
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IT821X is not set
to
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IT821X=y

thank you for your help, i changed it! Is anything else to do?
Or must i compile the kernel with the new option? If it yes, HOW TO compile it?

Hello Stefan

I believe, easiest way is following:
- download Source RPM ovzkernel-2.6.15-025stab014.1.src.rpm
- install it by using
rpm -ihv ovzkernel-2.6.15-025stab014.1.src.rpm
- go to /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES directory and fix the config files: replace in kernel-2.6.15-025stab014-i686-enterprise.config.ovz
kernel-2.6.15-025stab014-i686-smp.config.ovz
kernel-2.6.15-025stab014-i686.config.ovz
files string
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IT821X is not set
to
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IT821X=y

- go to the /usr/src/redhat/SPEC directory and change kernel version in kernel-ovz.spec file:
for example replace
%define ksubrelease 1
to
%define ksubrelease 1.custom
- use rpmbuild -bb kernel-ovz.spec. it will build 3 new ovzkernel rpm packages in /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i686 directory.
