how do I create an OS template from a running VE? [message #14538]

I got OpenVZ running and setup my first VE.

Now I'd like to know if there is a way to create a template from that VE to avoid downloading and updating a bunch of RPMs.

I apologize if this is a dup of another post. I couldn't find the answer search google/the forum.

It is very easy. Let <veid> is upgraded VE, which you want use as a template.

1) clean network setting and other VE-specific information
2) stop VE
3) tar.gz VEs private area and place the archive in /vz/templates/cache/
4) now you can create VEs based on your template.

Thank you for the response!

Any ideas on how to keep it up to date other than scripting the shut down of the VE and following the procedure you just described?

I was looking at vzdump and I was thinking a great feature would be to have a template option. Then I just dump nightly and keep my templates current.

It's either that or just deal with a massive amount of updates after creating a VE.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
