Hi!

Is it possible to share common files between VEs to save disk space on the host?

I mean, if I have 10 different VEs all running same version of e.g. Debian Etch - do I need complete installations of each Debian-distro in /vz/private/### or could I share some system-files/directories? I guess it could both save disk space and also make it easier to update each VE Question

Any thoughts on the matter?

Hello. this ability is exclusive to Virtuozzo, which is a commercial version of openvz. It has many other features as well. you can read about it at http://www.swsoft.com/en/products/virtuozzo/

Your idea is incorrect. UnionFS can provide such a feature. It's revolutionary virtual filesystem.

UnionFS is open-source technology. You must install UnionFS + openVZ.

I didn't say it was impossible. I configured openvz to run on my blender. does this mean openvz supports blenders?

Naturally, anything open source can be rewritten or reconfigured to support almost anything else. I believe when users ask "does X support Y", they are referring to- does project X have documentation and community support for Y? At this time, I would say openvz does not officially support unionfs.

I said the openvz project does not support what he had asked, but the virtuozzo project does. Most people are looking for business solutions and not summer coding projects.
