I'm experiencing this same issue when trying to boot the latest (2.6.9-023stab044.4-smp) on a Centos 4.5 server. After booting to the openvz kernel, my server hangs at

Net:Registered protocol family 16

google turned up no solution. Does anyone have any ideas?

Sorry to repost, but I could not post a reply to the orignal post at:

Thanks,
Michael

And what kernel do you run? I mean not OpenVZ, but your usual non-OVZ kernel? Have you tried noapic, noacpi, etc.?

Thanks,
Vasily

I just added the noapic and noacpi options and still stopped booting at Net:Registered protocol family 16

The non OpenVZ kernel that I run is 2.6.9-55.ELsmp

Thanks for your help,
Michael

Resolved

I reinstalled the server with CentOS 4.4. After installation, I was having some kernel panic errors due to apic. I was using a Belkin USB KVM. After rebooting many times while changing from the KVM to directly connecting USB keyboard and mouse to the server, it appears it was related to the KVM as it doesn't happen without the KVM. So I reinstalled OpenVZ and the new kernel booted fine.

Thanks for your help.
