Hello openvz gurus,

I do not think this has been asked before. What happens when sync is run from inside a VE context? are the fs buffers specific to the ve context updated to the disk or the entire server's buffers?

Rick

Hello Rick,

Vasily, thanks for the clarification. Is this by design?

I feel sync in the VE context should not flush the HNs entire disk buffers to disk, as the VE is making a decision it should not be involved in. I feel under a specific scenario, a resource dos attack could result in a ve continually calling sync.

It is a big deal to create safe per-VE syncing. But don't be afraid DOS attack: since 2.6.28-028test023 kernel we have ioprio feature, that grants all VE equal time to work with disk drives.

Vasily.
