30 minutes ago, I upgraded vzctl via apt-get (source: deb http://debian.systs.org/ etch openvz).

Version: vzctl version 3.0.16-5dso1
Linux: Debian Etch, Kernel 2.6.20

As of now I am getting a strange warning when starting any VE:

Starting VE ...
VE is mounted
Setting CPU units: 1000
Configure meminfo: 491520
Warning: meminfo feature is not supported by kernel. skipped meminfo configure

Do I have to worry? How can this be fixed? If it is a kernel setting, which one is it?

Thanks.

Hello,

Can you tell us OpenVZ kernel version you're running? (`uname -a`)

Thank you,
Vasily

It's 2.6.20 with patch-ovz002.1-combined

uname -a will not help, as I changed the EXTRAVERSION in Makefile:

VERSION = 2
PATCHLEVEL = 6
SUBLEVEL = 20
EXTRAVERSION = -vs
NAME = Homicidal Dwarf Hamster

Hi,

since this version, per default, the meminfo is set to privvmpages:1, its a warning.

Have you build your 2.6.20 kernel with the kernel-configs from OpenVZ ?

I am not sure about something missing in the kernel config, since it worked quite well until yesterday.

My current config is attached.

Ah, it's enough to know that you're using 2.6.20 OVZ series. Wink For this series (even for the latest 2.6.20-ovz005) meminfo patches are not ported from 2.6.18, so this feature doesn't work on this series at the moment. It'll be done later.

This WARNING is absolutely painless, so if you don't need meminfo feature, just don't pay attention on it. Once we port meminfo patches to 2.6.20 series and you upgrade your kernel - it'll disappear.
But if you need meminfo feature immediately, you should stick to 2.6.18 series for a while.

HTH,
Vasily

I don't need it for as far as I know.

I cannot downgrade to 2.6.18, because it lacks support for my SATA drivers Smile

Thanks for helping!
