Lets say I have 10 VPSs hosted, each one using ~100-150 processes, would this necessarily be bad even though I have 80% of CPU idle 99% of the time?

Would having 1500 processes on my server slow things down? The reason I ask if I have a client actually who needs nearly 350 processes because they are running a busy web server but I don't want to set their limit to 400 processes unless I know it isn't going to affect my other users on the box.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you,
Devon

It's hard to answer on this question theoretically Smile
Will your node be overloaded with such amount of processes? It depends very much on processes and external load from network and other things... Suppose you have a your server without OpenVZ and run there 1500 + 350 processes. Will your server be overloaded or not? Smile If you can answer this question - you automagically answer on your initial question. I guess only experiment can give you a certain answer.

Vasily.
