Hi,

Im currently considering bringing VPS offerings to my hosting service so am starting to get to grips with how OpenVZ works etc.

I noticed that many hosts offer rapid setup with Control panels and other software ready to go. I assume they are doing this by using templates they created?

Is it possible to setup a VE, and then make a template from it, or somehow duplicate the VE so it can be used to quickly create a new VE with all the same settings?

Could I do it like this?

Copy all the files from /vz/private/VPSID1 to /vz/private/VPSID2 and then copy the config file also and call it VPSID2 and change the IP etc.

Im sure there is an easier solution though.

Any advice on how I could do this would be great.

Thanks Smile

Hello,

yes it's possible to create a template from VE. You should only remember, that some unnecessary information should be removed before gzipping VE: network settings, users, etc.

There were some articles at wiki.openvz.org concerning creating/cloning VE caches.

HTH,
Vasily.
