Yesterday evening I downloaded this kernel and rebooted into it. This morning I found that the system had stopped perhaps about 8 hours after booting the new kernel. I don't have a serial console on this system, so I have no record of the panic, if there was one.
However I felt that this event needed to be reported. Prior to that I was running kernel-smp-2.6.18-ovz028test015-1 for a few weeks, since early to mid February without a similar occurrance. If it happens again, I'll try to set up a serial connection to this system and see if it produces any output.
Note this system is running FC6 if that makes a difference. There were no messages in any log that looked suspicious. There were 3 VEs running but none of them doing much at 0200 in the morning.
Jim.

Hello,
as far as I understand the situation is the following:
Your system works well:
on 2.6.18-ovz28stab21.1-smp from rpm
Your system works poor:
on 2.6.18-ovz028stab023.1-smp compiled by your self.
Moreover, "works poor" means that the node "freezes": no Oops on the console, just not answering on keyboard, and you can't login it via ssh... The main point is that there is no Oops on console.
Do I understand all facts you described right?
If yes, then, please, can you try precompiled 023.1-smp kernel. And attach you .config file for the kernel that doesn't work.
We appreciate your assistance very much,
thank you,
Vasily.

Hello,
Thank you for the information. I'd like to note, that running the older kernel doesn't check if the hardware is broken. The thing is that, one kernel can perfectly work on broken hardware, but the other kernel will uncover a defect in hardware. So, in order to surely check hardware, please, read this small article: http://wiki.openvz.org/Hardware_testing
If it is not a hardware flaw, but OpenVZ kernel bug, please, install serial console on the node and after freezing of the node, check, if there is a panic on console. If there is no panic, please, press magic buttons (http://wiki.openvz.org/Magic_SysRq_Key) and send the information to us (for example via bugzilla).
We appreciate your help very much,
thank you,
Vasily.

Keyboard was flat dead this morning, however I seemed to have gotten a kernel panic:
BUG: NMI Watchdog detected LOCKUP on CPU1, eip c04b4be8, registers:
I'll see if I can figure out how to file a bug report.
OK filed as bug #516. Two attachments. Both are probably close to identical. One is serial console, the other is netconsole. I also have a photo of the monitor, but it's really a dup of the last 25 lines of the two files.
